There is nothing worse than Springtime for some, with hay fever rife for those suffering the blows of some early tree pollens. Allergies taking their toll can be debilitating, so most of us stock up on antihistamines and look for alternative ways to curb the sniffles.

My friends have joked it's easier to list things I'm not allergic to than things that I am whilst I tend to avoid my living room as my allergies always kick off in there. I felt it was more important to breathe easily in my office and bedroom where I can purify the air, and now I have a third air purifier to shuffle around and use three top-tier air purifiers where needed.

My latest addition to my air purifying brands is the Swan Desktop Air Purifier which has a retail price of £79.99 but is currently down to £59.99 on their site and the first thing I noticed was how petite it is. It's much smaller than my other purifiers, the Breville 360° Light Protect Air Purifier and Dyson Hot+Cool- but nothing compares to the Dyson for it's allergy-curing powers. Here's why.

Now I've tried many tricks, and it seems the incredibly effective Dyson Hot + Cool Purifier is helping me the most when considering before using it, I seemed so sensitive to all allergies in my house.

Dyson offers a range of air purifiers which have been praised for capturing 99.95% of pollutants so it seemed most fitting for me who is always hyper-reactive to hayfever at this time of year.

As far as devices go, it's not the cheapest costing over £440 but once you take into consideration that this one machine works as an air purifier for hay fever season, can cool you down like an air conditioning unit, and can warm up a room in minutes during the winter it starts to make much more sense why there's a hefty price tag. Usually, shoppers would have to spend £600 but it's now reduced to just £449.99 on the Dyson website.

With an easy-to-use remote, you can control how hot or cold your room gets, how strong the fan is and whether it rotates. It's recommended, if you want to take full advantage of the air purification, that you keep doors and windows closed to have full effect in the room.

I have had no issues doing this and found that I have the only room in the entire house that has managed to stay cool during warmer evenings. While the fan itself is huge and certainly becomes a staple in any room, I would say that it's even better than keeping all windows open because of the easy customisation and how close I can get.

Using the unit for air conditioning during the summer months to stay cool, unlike common air conditioning units, the Dyson Hot + Cool doesn't need you to have part of it leading outside which I find is much more efficient for space and makes it less of an eyesore.

One thing I love about this device is how versatile it is, it can be adjusted to suit my personal needs. It does use up a lot of energy, with my energy bill jumping from around £40 to over £100 in the summer when I have used it day and night- but this would only be an issue if I were to use it every day. I am making do with just using it say once or twice a week and it's a great way to keep cool while I work from home.

For those who have the cash to spare, I would strongly recommend this fan which you can buy here directly from Dyson. If you're looking for something cheaper then there is the Breville 360° Light Protect Air Purifier but I find it to be quite loud and that it leaves me feeling dehydrated at times. While my favourite has to be the Dyson Hot+Cool I think Swan's also offers a great value for money alternative.
