The ongoing rift between Prince Harry and the Royal Family has seemingly "deepened" after the Duke's recent visit to the United Kingdom where Charles was "too busy".

Earlier this month, Prince Harry flew to the United Kingdom from the United States. The Duke of Sussex came back to his former country of residence for a brief visit amid the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

Before he headed to the UK, rumours were rife that he could possibly meet with his father, the King, but this was soon proven otherwise. After he landed back in England earlier this month, a spokesperson for the Duke said: "It, unfortunately, will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme. The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon."

And now royal expert and commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has weighed in on the rift between the Duke of Sussex and his family in the UK. Mr Fitzwilliams told us that "the depth of the rift with the Royal Family has, if anything, deepened after Harry’s recent visit".

He went on to touch on the "utterly bizarre subsequent controversy over whether his father was too busy to meet him which is extremely unhelpful as he needs to project a positive image", and then offered some advice on how the Sussexes can "thrive" going forward.

"If they are to thrive and not just survive they must avoid offending the Royal Family, their attacks have cost both them and the royals popularity and made them appear extremely destructive and also hypocritical over the issue of privacy," he added.

Concluding his analysis of the current situation, Mr Fitzwilliams said: "Will we see future trips like Nigeria? Will Archie and Lili accompany them? The world’s press was fascinated, but that was because they are members of the royal family. However, they have been unpredictable and it will be fascinating to see where they take matters from here."

This comes after the Sussexes wowed the world with their 72-hour-whistle-stop tour of Nigeria last weekend. The couple flew from London to West Africa after Prince Harry's trip to the capital, with Meghan meeting him at Heathrow.
