A pizza oven could just be the next garden must-have for 2023, and there are certainly plenty on the market to choose from. A pizza oven is a necessity not only for a cheesy, gooey, mouth watering pizza with the perfect base - it's also becoming an essential garden feature to look the part for your next family gathering.

With us Brits having a glorious two weeks of sun, I’ve been trying out a Blaze Box pizza oven to see how much I can up my barbecue game.

Our new Landmann gas barbecue has seen us pretty much ditch the kitchen oven ever since we set it up, so we've continued eating al fresco at home. We’ve been looking at all the different things we can cook on it, and pizza is by far one of the easiest and tastiest too.

The Blaze Box pizza oven usually retails at £59.99, but is currently on offer for £49.99 at Amazon and Robert Dyas.

Amazon said: “Create authentic style pizzas in the comfort of your own garden with this innovative pizza oven from Blaze Box. The pizza box sits neatly on top of BBQ's and gas grills, converting them instantly into a gourmet pizza oven..”

The garden gadget features a metal casing and a ceramic stone which can be placed on top of your barbecue to create a delicious, perfectly crisp pizza in 10 minutes. After making our own pizzas in the kitchen, we waited for the heat to ramp up on the BBQ to 180 degrees, checking the pizza oven’s thermometer for accuracy.

Once up to temp, I opened the pizza oven’s magnetic door and slid my pizza onto the stone. The design also features a glass viewing window, allowing you to check the progress of your pizza without releasing any heat, so you’ll never end up burning a slice - unless you forget it’s in there, of course.

The Landmann is the perfect size for this pizza oven, and the hood of the BBQ comfortably close to retain heat. In fact, there was still space either side of the pizza oven to cook any other sausages or burgers for a bigger gathering.

My pizza featured a healthy helping of mozzarella, chorizo, salami and tomatoes, and tasted better than any supermarket or takeaway pizza I’ve ever had, with a slightly smoked taste from the barbecue, crisp base, and juicy toppings that were full of flavour.

After our food, the pizza oven casing just needed a quick wipe down, and is lightweight enough to just pick up and wipe over with a cloth. The stone can be left on the barbecue and will eventually blacken, but the instructions say to clean any food off it, which is exactly what I did.

For just £49.99, it’s one of the best quality affordable barbecue top pizza ovens I’ve seen on the market.
