Peter Andre has given his verdict on who the next Bond girl should be while suggesting a surprising twist may be on the cards.

Rumours have been rife about who will star in the next flick in the famous franchise in which Aaron Taylor-Johnson is being touted as secret agent 007. In news which surprised some fans, Coronation Street star, Michelle Keegan and Love Island host, Maya Jama, are said to be among the favourites to play Bond's glamorous accomplice and now Pete has given his thoughts on the matter.

Speaking about the new Bond film after becoming a dad for the fifth time earlier this month when his wife, Emily, gave birth to a baby girl, Pete, 51, said he thinks Maya and Michelle would be great for the flick - but said they could also play Bond. Suggesting the surprising twist, he said: "It looks like a few girls are in the running, including Michelle Keegan and Maya Jama and I think it would be amazing to see one of them become Bond.

"People might not want to change the format but I think it's important to move with the times. Maybe it could be James Bond's daughter taking over from her father," he told New magazine.

Michelle, 36 - who rose to fame on Coronation Street before starring in shows like Brassic - has been touted as a potential Bond girl for weeks. She's now said to be the second favourite to star alongside the film series' next lead, following in the footsteps of actors, including Ursula Andress, Michelle Yeoh, Halle Berry and more recently Léa Seydoux, who have all played companions of the secret agent in the franchise.

According to Gambling.com, Michelle is one of the favourites to land a role in the next film, which will be the first since Daniel Craig's departure. She's said to be behind Jodie Comer, best known for starring in the BBC's Killing Eve, in the odds.

The outlet's entertainment commentator, James Leyfield, reports that Jodie has odds of 6/4 but she "faces increased competition" from Michelle. The latter is said to have gone from third favourite at 5/2 to second favourite, with odds of 7/4, just weeks after her role in Netflix's Fool Me Once.

Elsewhere, Kaya Scodelario, 32, is listed as the third favourite at the moment with odds of 5/2. She's among the cast of the streaming platform's newly launched series the Gentlemen, with her previous credits having included shows such as Skins.

According to the analysis, other potential candidates for a role include Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, Bridgerton cast member Phoebe Dynevor and Meg Bellamy, who portrayed Kate Middleton in the sixth season of the Crown. Dua Lipa, Jenna Ortega and Saoirse Ronan are also named in the odds.

Meanwhile, fans are still waiting for the official James Bond casting after Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging star Aaron was said to be a shoo in. He has neither confirmed or denied the rumours, but has reportedly been offered the role made famous by acting veterans, including Sean Connery and Roger Moore.
