Singer Lisa Stansfield says she’s still not old enough to play an iconic Coronation Street landlady - after once being offered the role of Stella Price.

The All Around The World songstress, 58, turned it down because she didn’t want to give up music. But Lisa, who is a huge Corrie fan, hasn’t ruled out appearing on the cobbles one day. The 90s pop star recalled: “I was offered once the part to play the landlady of the Rovers Return. I am the biggest Corrie fan.

“I always wanted to go in the Rovers and just have a little game of darts. And they offered me a part, and it was for two years. It would have tied me down. I was not allowed to do anything else. So, unfortunately, it kind of jammed.”

Michelle Collins took the part in 2010 and remained in Weatherfield as Stella until 2014. Sally Ann Matthews, who plays current landlady Jenny Bradley, recently spoke of her long holiday plans as she took time off away from the show. So would Lisa be keen if there was a vacancy at the Rovers Return?

“I know I'm getting older, but I'll have to be really old to play that,” she laughed when speaking at the Silver Clef awards in London. Maybe in the future, decades away, but we're going to see it. But I really would still love to just sit in the Rovers and just sit at the bar or in the boozer, like secretly on my own.”
