Body Coach Joe Wicks has divided opinion after leading a huge crowd through a workout session at Glastonbury Festival.

The 38-year-old fitness trainer, who led PE sessions during the Covid-19 lockdown for school children who were learning from home, proved to be a popular choice for those who wanted to work off the excesses of the night before on Worthy Farm.

Not everyone was enamoured with the beloved fitness guru leading festival goers through their paces and a video posted by Joe on X, formerly known as Twitter, of his energetic performance as the crowd followed his actions. There was a backlash on social media to the video with one irate person, who wasn't at the festival, said that some of those involved in the workout should be made to forfeit their ticket.

They posted on X: "Everyone should be free to enjoy festivals how they please, but also i refuse to believe anyone who goes to joe wicks session at glastonbury will be getting anywhere near as much out of the festival experience as, eg, me, a man who loves a sesh + thus i should go in their place."

Another believed that the festival has taken an adverse step by the inclusion of the workouts: "Glastonbury is now about as rock&roll as the colour beige, in fact the only thing missing this year is the Waitrose tent!". A third person added that they had not fancied going but this is confirmation why they won't be going: "Never fancied Glastonbury. This had vindicated that decision."

Others thought that it could be a bad idea, with one posting: "imagine going to a music festival and mid trip you join a mass workout crowd." While another commented: "what has happened to us as a nation. This is what a festival is now."

Joe's festival workouts come after he admitted that he needed to reconnect with his family after a busy few years. In a written statement on Instagram, he declared: “Today I will do better! Today I will respect my body. I know what makes me feel good so I’m going to do more of that. I know what makes me feel crap so I’m going to do less of that. I’m going to drink more water. I’m going to get some fresh air. I’m going to turn my phone off for a few hours. I’m going to reconnect with my family”.

The fitness fanatic then added: “It’s the simple things we have to focus on.” His post came moments after he had shared a video via his Stories function where he urged fans and followers not to beat themselves up if they had failed to exercise so far over the weekend.

He declared: “If you haven’t exercised yet, there’s time. Use the weekend to look after yourself, yeah? Find a bit of time to go outside, do a little workout. You don’t need an app. You don’t need anything. You can just go for a walk. You can go for a jog. Get on a bike. Go for a scooter ride with the kids.”

He continued: “Just all movement’s good for you isn’t it? Have a lovely weekend. Hope you find that energy to get moving and pick up your vibe and your energy a little bit. Good luck.”
