And other celebrities have followed suit - including Sandra Bullock, who gave away a huge $1million to the Red Cross to help out.
The secretive philanthropist, who has a home in Austin, Texas, handed out the jaw-dropping amount over donating more than $5million in total over recent humanitarian crises.
The Red Cross thanked Sandra for her "incredible gift", with the organisation's Elizabeth Penniman telling People magazine: "Having someone like Sandra make this kind of commitment, it helps bring people together and open their hearts and be even more generous."
In a short statement, the Miss Congeniality star said Harvey should bring all Americans together despite the deeply divisive politics of current times.

Houston's most famous export, Beyonce, who has recently moved from New York to Los Angeles, has said she is working on a plan to help her hometown recover.
"Texas, you are in my prayers," the singer posted on her Instagram page.
In statement to the Houston Chronicle on Monday, Beyonce added that she was working closely with her team and her Houston pastor "to implement a plan to help as many as we can".
British band Coldplay, who cancelled a planned show in Houston on Friday because of the impending hurricane, wrote a new song for the city called Houston #1, which they performed at a concert in Miami on Monday.
Just days after actor Kevin Hart publicly put the spotlight on Beyonce and told her to get donating to her storm-ravaged home state of Texas, her pastor has revealed that she's already made a huge contribution.
Rev. Rudy Rasmus from St. John's United Methodist Church in Houston revealed that the Lemonade star has been secretly helping her hometown for years, and in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, it's no different.
"Beyonce is extremely private, and has done a lot that she has requested we don't announce and publicise, over the years," he told TMZ.com .
"She has always taken a position to help this city in its times of need, and now is no different. She has really stepped up and it's been a real blessing for us."
The tropical storm has claimed the lives of 18 people so far, and officials estimate that more than 30,000 residents now need shelter.
And Rev. Rasmus said he's working with Beyonce - who was raised in the city's Third Ward - to help gather supplies so that when they rain finally stops, essentials can be dished out to those in need.
And on Tuesday she told The Houston Chronicle that her charity BeyGood, which provides clothes, food, shelter, healthcare, jobs and counselling to those in need, is also involved.
"My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help," she said.
"I am working closely with my team at BeyGood as well as my pastor to implement a plan to help as many as we can."
Taking to Instagram in the early hours of Monday, the star also shared a message of support with her 106million followers on social media.

It comes as a terrifying and record-breaking 30inches of rainfall was recorded across the city of Houston in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, turning roads into rivers.
Harvey made landfall as a category-four hurricane late last Friday, bringing flooding described by officials as "unprecedented" - though it has since been downgraded to a tropical storm.
Up to 13,000 people have been rescued in and around Houston, the fourth largest city in the US, where about 6.6m people live in the metropolitan area.
