Former Deputy Police Chief in Hopkinton Indicted on Rape of a Child in Connection with Assault on a Student that Occurred While He was a School Resource Officer

HOPKINTON - Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan announced today that a Middlesex Grand Jury has indicted the former Hopkinton Deputy Chief  of Police, John “Jay” Porter, 54, on three charges of Rape of a Child in connection with allegedly assaulting a student while he was assigned as a school resource officer in the Town of Hopkinton school system.

The incidents allegedly occurred during 2004 and 2005 while the victim was a 15 year old student. During that time the defendant allegedly assaulted the victim on multiple occasions off school property.

This investigation has been handled by the District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police. The prosecutor is Assistant District Attorney Thomas Brant and Victim Witness Advocate Meaghan McCarthy. As of Friday, April 28, Porter is no longer on the Hopkinton Police Department.

The arraignment has not been scheduled yet.
