It doesn't matter that the second Spider-Man doesn't really move the gameplay forward and offers, with a few variations, just another helping of what worked in the previous two games. But in this case, we're really talking about excellence, so any experimentation and novelty could lead to disappointment. [Issue#331]
Full of emotional highs that will make you get out of
your chair and cheer at the screen in a way that few games have managed
to achieve in recent memory, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 represents Insomniac
Games operating at the apex of its considerable powers. Spectacular and
amazing, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a superior, spectacle stuffed action
adventure that provides players with the ultimate superhero fantasy.
Full of surprising heart and delicate moments that balance beautifully
with the sort of blockbuster superhero bombast that its developer has
refined to a fine art, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a toweringly polished,
unparalleled masterwork that redefines the superhero video game genre at
large and is better than the previous two games in every way imaginable.
This is exactly what you've been waiting for.
As someone who played the forest two on the ps4 and waited so long to play this it did not disappoint there are plot twists and questions from the previous two that get answered but then we get even more questions and I cannot wait to see where this goes from here one of my favorite games ever
A practically complete sequel that improves almost everything it can improve and offers us the best Spider-Man video game and one of the best superhero video games in history. Outstanding in every way, pampering both the main and the secondary and that will surely leave us wanting more.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a great sequel to a great game. It's bigger and more focused, and it captures everything that made the first game work. From start to finish, it is as fun to play as its predecessor, and if it has one "flaw," it is that you're getting exactly what you'd expect. I can't get enough of the game, so when I completed it, I instantly set out to finish all of the challenges. Kudos to the development team.
Insomniac Games delivers another stellar superhero-adventure. With the lessons learned from the first Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles: Morales, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 turns out to be an epic yet always enjoyable open-world-action-game that satisfies fans with its love for its characters but also with a well-rounded gameplay and interesting and varied mission-design.
Spider-Man 2 made me feel like the web-slinger himself – two versions of him, in fact – as I played through the game. I loved the feeling of getting around the city, fighting crime and saving the day. I didn't like how weak Spider-Man sometimes felt against bigger groups, nor did I like when the story slowed things down and took me away from the high-flying action sections. However, the overall experience was able to surpass both of these issues, and Spider-Man 2 is worthy of every accolade it receives.
Even if these faults are eventually fixed in an upcoming patch, it’s clear that this game should not have been released in its current inexcusable state. It’s a shame because, critiques aside, there’s a genuinely addictive gameplay loop here that I’m sure I would have found more compelling if there was stability. Ultimately, bugs are not guaranteed in everyone’s playthroughs, so you may get lucky. But I do recommend being aware of these potential problems and making backup saves should something go awry.
There are different kind of subgames in it. At first, it is a bit annoying because I just want to fight and swing. But later, I found myself is immersed into the character and background. Those non-fight plots became kind of a diverse feeling to me.
And I have to say, the 3d model is really really exquisite. Sceneries through the windows or reflected in the windows are both realistic.
The definition of mid, not bad but also not good. It doesn’t try anything new in the series and swapping out Peter for Miles was one of the worst decisions in this game
Spider-Man 1 was one of my favorite 3rd Person Action games I've played. Imagine my shock and disappointment when Insomniac's sequel is worse in nearly every possible way.
The main story is compelling, but it gets undermined by Insomniac's poor decisions and design choices:
1. You're Spider-Man! One of the most powerful Superheroes in Marvel's universe (a spider can lift 50 TIMES its own weight, so at Human Scale (Spider-Man), you have Superhuman Strength). How stupid and unbelievable is it that as Spider-Man, you need to land at least 10 HITS on a generic NPC Enemy before they get knocked out? Really?
2. Combat is repetitive: You have the played-out standard Combat archetypes ruining the game: The Big Brute that blocks and you have to Counter before you can attack. You have the generic Shield NPC that can block 100% of your attacks. Really? A standard Human NPC with a Shield magically can withstand EVERY attack from Spider-Man? You have the Ranged / Sniper NPCs that magically zip away from you 100% of the time to fire at you from ranged, so you have to chase them down repeatedly in every fight. It's boring.
3. Laughable Repetitive Boss Fights. EVERY SINGLE BOSS in Spider-Man 2 magically gets their Health Bar restored 100%, at least 3 Times or more! The last Boss, you face in multiple scenarios at least 6 (SIX) Times with Full Health being restored.
It's a joke. It became a Parody of an Action Game. In RPGs, the Final Boss, OK, sure, you beat them down, they get back up and magically get another Health Bar, and a totally new phase. Maybe 3 stages. In Spider-Man 2? Every single Boss gets multiple Health Bars restored even though you beat them down repeatedly.
This turns the game into a tedious, draw-out mess.
And how many times does the player need to see the Bad Guy gets away again. And again. And again. Interrupted by NPC Civilians in danger! Oh no, Spider-Man go save them (which is OK and fits his lore). But Insomniac used that "save the civilians at the last second, and Bad Guy gets away (again)" countless times in this game. It's sad.
What could've been a great game is ruined by repetitive, drawn-out standard fights and boss fights and plot points (they got away... again, and again, and again).
Felt generally underwhelming when compared to the masterpiece that is the first game. Incredibly overrated. Shorter than my Sonic Frontiers play through. Such a waste of 90 dollars.
