UPDATED:

EAST PALO ALTO — The city of East Palo Alto will be opening a free COVID-19 testing site for two days next week, in partnership with Verily Life Sciences.

It will be located at East Palo Alto’s Lewis and Platt YMCA, and will run on Friday May 22 and Saturday May 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the city said.

The testing site will be open to anyone, including undocumented immigrants, but is aimed at residents over the age of 18 who live in East Palo Alto and Menlo Park east of Highway 101, Walfred Solorzano, the East Palo Alto city clerk said.

“We want to make sure we have a place people feel safe, because that’s an issue among our Latino population,” Solorzano said. “This is something that we are doing in our historically disadvantaged city. We’re trying to help bend the curve.”

Verily, a research division of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, will run the testing.

Testing will be accessible by both drive-up and walk-up, and a doctor’s recommendation is not required. Those looking to be tested need to make an appointment through Verily’s Project Baseline website.

Solorzano said the city is looking into the possibility of having the testing extended, but for now it is only for two days.

Multilingual staff members will be available at the testing site, the city said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

The city is also still seeking about 20 volunteers to help with registration, who will be provided with personal protective equipment while volunteering. Anyone interested in volunteering can call the city for more information at 650-853-3100.
