REDWOOD CITY — A Belmont man is charged in a burglary spree that hit at least 15 businesses and spanned five San Mateo County cities, a prosecutor said Thursday.

Pablo Eduardo Vega, 29 pleaded not guilty Wednesday in San Mateo County Superior Court to the month and a half spree that targeted businesses after closing. Vega is charged with breaking into restaurants and hair salons in Burlingame, Belmont, San Mateo, San Carlos and Millbrae, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

Prosecutors say he forced his way in and then grabbed cash or computers. Among the victims are a Belmont business, Elite Hair Salon in Burlingame, Luceti’s on 25th Avenue restaurant in San Mateo, two San Carlos salons and three businesses in Millbrae, Wagstaffe said.

Prosecutors say the suspect used the same general technique of kicking open a door and taking small electronics.

The suspect was captured on surveillance video in at least one case, Wagstaffe said.

Vega is being held in Redwood City in lieu of $150,000 bail and is due back in court on Nov. 15.
