REDWOOD CITY — Two East Bay men face attempted murder charges for a stabbing outside a San Bruno karaoke bar sparked by an argument, a prosecutor said Thursday.
Hongli Huang, 32, of Hayward and Jin Quan Wong, 35, of Oakland made their first appearance Wednesday in San Mateo County Superior Court on the charges, but only Wong entered a plea, not guilty. Both men were being held without bail for the Monday attack outside Paper Moon Restaurant on San Mateo Avenue, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The trouble started when two groups began arguing inside the bar, leading to both sides getting kicked out through separate exits. Once outside, the words escalated to violence and a fight broke out. During the melee, Huang held the victim to the ground while Wong pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the elbow and abdomen a total of three times, Wagstaffe said.
As the group, including Huang and Wong, began to leave, a man from the victim’s group followed after the suspects, Wagstaffe said. At that point Huang turned and told the man not to follow or “he was going to die,” Wagstaffe said.
