BELMONT — A Notre Dame de Namur University student was arrested for drunken driving after a rollover car crash that sent two people to the hospital early Saturday, police said.

Officers arrested Saddiq Jami, 18, of Alameda on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury after hitting a wall at 2:15 a.m. in the 1400 block of Ralston Avenue, Belmont police Capt. Pat Halleran said.

Jami and four other students were driving back to campus when he allegedly failed to negotiate a turn at Chula Vista Drive. After the car hit a wall, it flipped over and came to rest on its roof in the middle of the road, Halleran said.

Jami was the only person wearing a seat belt. Two 18-year-old passengers, a man and woman, were both taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, Halleran said.

Jami was booked into San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City on drunken driving charges.
