Lockout or no lockout, the Raiders are going to work.
That was the message delivered by quarterback Jason Campbell on Tuesday in interviews on SiriusXM radio and Pro Football Talk Live.
Campbell said he and defensive tackle Richard Seymour are organizing a weeklong workout session, declining to give the date, time or location.
“We have found a complex to use. The guys don’t want us to tell where it’s going to be,” Campbell said. “We want it to be about us and our time to build unity. We’ve called guys, making sure everyone is getting their flights on time, and everybody can be at this certain location.”
Campbell named running back Darren McFadden, receivers Darrius Heyward-Bey, Louis Murphy and Jacoby Ford, defensive tackle Tommy Kelly and linebacker Quentin Groves as players who plan to attend, but said he did not expect any players who are not under contract to be there.
The Raiders’ list of 25 prospective free agents includes cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, safety Michael Huff, guard Robert Gallery, tight end Zach Miller and running back Michael Bush.
Campbell said he has already had passing sessions with Murphy and Heyward-Bey and is looking forward to getting more players involved. When the lockout was lifted for a day on April 29, Campbell was able to get his playbook, making it possible to begin running plays at the practice sessions.
Only a few Raiders players made it to work before owners received a stay to resume the lockout, but according to an NFL source, teams were free to send out playbooks during that window.
According to a source at San Jose State, some members of the 49ers, along with players from other NFL teams who played at SJSU, have been conducting scattered workouts at the school. The source didn’t say how many players have attended or what days they practice.
