Three sixth inning runs and a great pitching performance by Devon Murphy propelled the Terra Nova varsity softball team to a 3-1 victory at Capuchino last week.

The win moved Terra Nova into a tie for second in the tough Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division heading as they head into the last week of league play. The Lady Tigers have two regular scheduled contests and two more make-ups to play this week.

Trailing 1-0 thanks to an unearned run, Terra Nova took advantage of Cap mistakes to mount a rally in the sixth. Megan Moyle and Talisa Fiame reached on errors. After the next two hitters struck out, Simala Afoa hustled to first on a grounder and reached safely with a head first dive. Courtney Lewis then ripped a 1-1 fastball for a long double to empty the bases. Murphy got the next six outs on ground balls and the Lady Tigers had the hard fought win.

“Devon is not overpowering. What makes her good is the location of her pitches,” Head Coach Donna Tolero stated.

Tolero was also pleased with the play of her infield, shortstop Talisa Fiame, second baseman Erini Misthos, and third baseman Alana O’Neill. Murphy escaped a couple of tough spots because of nice defense.
