PITTSBURG — A man was shot in the shoulder Monday night on the Delta de Anza Regional Trail in what appears to be a gang-related attack, according to East Bay Regional Park District Police.

The shooting was reported about 11:30 p.m. on a stretch of the trail near Crestview Drive about three blocks south of West Leland Road. The victim, a 19-year-old Pittsburg resident, was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.

He told police that he encountered four males on the trail and exchanged gang slogans with the group, followed by a member of the group shooting at him two to three times. The group ran away headed west on the trail.

Police said the area was not well-lit and that the victim did not know his attackers and could not describe their appearances. Authorities searched the area with a police dog but did not find anyone.

Anyone with information about this shooting can contact parks police at 510-881-1833.
