Two men seriously beat a Los Altos resident after giving him a lift home from a karaoke bar early Tuesday morning, but the motive for the attack remains unclear, a police captain said.

The 40-year-old victim was taken to Stanford Hospital with “significant injuries” to his face, eye and shoulder, Los Altos police Capt. Andy Galea said.

Shiseop Kim, 22, of San Jose, and Si Woong Chang, 37, of Sunnyvale, were arrested in connection with the attack.

“We do not have a reason for the assault as of this moment,” Galea said Tuesday afternoon.

The three men were at Kun, a karaoke bar in Santa Clara, but the 40-year-old victim did not know Kim or Chang, and they were not socializing at the bar, according to Galea. The victim was waiting for a taxi cab in the parking lot when the other men offered him a ride home and he accepted, Galea said.

They drove the man to his home on the 1400 block of Fallen Leaf Lane and then attacked him in front of his house, Galea said.

The attackers used their “hands, fists, perhaps feet” to hit the man, said Galea, adding that he wasn’t robbed.

A neighbor called police at about 2:45 a.m., and Kim and Chang were arrested at the scene. Police arrested Kim on suspicion of battery with great bodily injury, violating probation and resisting arrest, and Chang was arrested on suspicion of battery with great bodily injury.
