Fifteen local sports personalities will be honored by the Pacifica Sports Club at the annual Breakfast of Champions award program on Saturday, May 21 at the Pacifica Moose Lodge.

The public is invited to join the Pacifica Sports Club in applauding the efforts of the individuals for their sports achievements this year.

John Shultz, Director of Maintenance Operations for the Jefferson Union High School District, will be the guest speaker. He will give a report on the status of improvements at both Terra Nova and Oceana high school as reflected in the passage of Measure N bond several years ago.

Breakfast begins at 9 a.m. Tickets may be purchased at the Moose Lodge the morning of the breakfast. The Pacifica Moose Lodge is located at 776 Bradford Way in Fairway Park. Tickets can also be obtained by calling PSC President Horace Hinshaw at 650-355-1034 or horaceh1@yahoo.com.

Chef Ang Gaggero will be returning to direct the kitchen corps. For $10 the City of Pacifica Sports Hall of Fame member will serve you a full course breakfast. He will enlist the help of Moose Lodge members to serve the athletes and guests.

The PSC asked principals and athletic directors at high schools to nominate the student-athletes. The schools were asked to submit the name of one male athlete and one female athlete for their performance on the school’s varsity team for the 2010-2011 school year. The nominated students who attend an out-of-town high school must live in Pacifica and be a member of the school’s varsity team.

The following students were selected as the PSC’s athletes of the year and will be presented with their certificate of accomplishment at the breakfast. Terra Nova: Devon Murphy, four-year varsity softball pitcher and All-Peininsula Athlete League honoree and Jeremiah Stuckey, team captain for the Central Coast Section Division III championship football team and PAL offensive lineman of year. Oceana: Naomi Davidson, four-year tennis athlete ,and member of the Central Coast Section playoff qualifying cross country team and Eric Guo, four-year tennis athlete. Alma Heights Christian Academy: Tamera Chew, volleyball team most valuable players and Private School Athletic League all-league athlete, and Matthew Philpott, two-sport athlete and baseball team captain. Sacred Heart: Geena Giovannetti, basketball athlete, named to the West Catholic Athlete League and San Francisco Preps All-City team and Martin Folan, member of the basketball CCS championship team and named to the WCAL All-League team. Serra: Ben Parodi, varsity football and ranked No. 3 in shot put rankings in the CCS. St. Ignatius: Emily Mauer, four-year varsity crew team and Mark Dimas, pole vault for track and field team.

Also, being honored is Terra Nova’s Maggie Bowman-Jones for her non-school sport of crew. The senior athlete is a championship rower with the Pacific Rowing Club.

Three exchange students who played for sports for Terra Nova will also be recognized: Giorgio Auxilia (Itlay), cross country, soccer and swimming, Lili Dubbick (Germany), swimming and Akke DeHoog (Netherlands) water polo and swimming.
