Martinez resident Danny Apostol, above, carefully looks through the ong choy, also known as water spinach during the first Pleasant Hill farmers market of the season May 7. At another booth offering varieties of fresh fruit, Shawn Lipetzky of Lone Oak Ranch in Reedley helps a customer with some oranges at the market, which is located on Crescent Drive in front of the Century 16 theater in downtown Pleasant Hill. In addition to many vendors, there also was music by Highwater Blues, a six-member band that plays blues-based American tunes.
