College Park HOF class set

  • The College Park High Athletic Hall of Fame will induct its newest class on Aug. 27 at Zio Fraedo’s Restaurant in Pleasant Hill. This year’s class will include Sally Sutton (track and field), Karen Semenza (basketball, softball), Casey Strand (wrestling), Ed Sias Sr. (coach) and the 1993 football team. Tickets are $50, and proceeds will benefit College Park Athletics. For more information, email jerrypollard@yahoo.com.

    Broncos triumph

  • Northgate High’s softball team earned bragging rights by beating Walnut Creek rival Berean Christian 11-7 at Heather Farms on May 3. Freshman Octavia Bond was 3 for 4 with three runs while sophomore Isabel Sanchez was 2 for 3 with two runs to lead the Broncos offensively. Northgate scored seven runs in the second inning to take control of the game early.

    Eagles stay hot

  • The Clayton Valley High baseball team showed it is ready for the upcoming postseason, scoring three important wins last week. A 19-0 win over visiting Mt. Diablo on May 3 got things started, a 7-2 win over host Concord on May 5 kept it going and a 1-0 win over visiting James Logan on May 7 put the cherry on top. The Eagles entered play this week with a 16-3-2 overall record and a perfect 9-0 in the Diablo Valley Athletic League.

  • DFAL championships, track and field, May 13, 3:30 p.m. — Dublin High hosts the league meet, where athletes will try to qualify for the NCS Tri-Valley meet.

  • DFAL championships, swimming, May 14, noon — Numerous records fell last year at one of the East Bay’s fastest meets. With several of those swimmers returning, look for more impressive times again this season.

  • DVAL championships, track and field, May 14, 3:30 p.m. — Athletes looking to qualify for the NCS Tri-Valley Championships and win league titles will convene at College Park.

  • Amador Valley at Carondelet, softball, May 17, 4 p.m. — Two of the top teams in the EBAL do battle with league title aspirations on the line.

    Stars of the week

  • Robert Stephenson, Alhambra baseball — Stephenson struck out 16 and allowed only three hits in a 2-1 win over host Dublin on May 3.

  • Steven Swift, Diablo Valley College baseball — Swift wrapped up an incredible season, striking out six and pitching a complete game in a 2-1 win over Cosumnes River on May 6. Swift was named pitcher of the year in the Big 8 Conference, finishing the regular season 10-0 with a 0.96 ERA.

  • Raheem Blackmon, Mt. Diablo track and field — Blackmon won the 200-meter dash and 300 hurdles at a dual meet against host Northgate on May 4.

  • Will Brueckner, Acalanes boys golf — The freshman was named Diablo Foothill Athletic League MVP after winning the league tournament with a one-under 71 at the Lone Tree Golf Course on May 2.

  • Erin Delaria, Northgate track and field — Delaria won both hurdles events as Northgate won a tri-meet with Concord and Mt. Diablo on May 4.

  • Jeff Doran, Clayton Valley baseball — Doran struck out six and allowed just three hits to toss a 1-0 shutout against visiting James Logan on May 7.

  • Lauren Dougherty, Miramonte girls lacrosse — Dougherty scored six goals to lead the Matadors to a 15-6 win over Campolindo on May 3.

  • Brian Tan and Luke Bohuslav, Miramonte boys tennis — The No. 4 seeded duo advanced to the NCS Division I doubles finals before falling to top-seeded Jon and Matt Wang of Piedmont.
