ANTIOCH — City leaders want a single county supervisor who represents all of their city and the communities to its east.

County supervisors are redrawing district boundaries to reflect the new census, and Antioch and other Contra Costa cities are sending letters with their views on the process.

It makes more sense for Antioch to be in the same district with the communities to its east, rather than in a district that encompasses Pittsburg and Bay Point, city council members said Tuesday.

“We want to be kept whole,” Councilwoman Mary Rocha said. “I think we have more in common with far East County.”

Councilman Brian Kalinowski agreed. “We’ve spent a lot of time and energy being a positive partner in regional issues,” he said, mentioning transportation.

Three of the four options supervisors are considering would split Antioch into two districts.

Pittsburg’s industry-heavy waterfront is more consistent with the area between Concord and Martinez, Kalinowski said. Antioch is in District 5, which includes Bay Point, Pittsburg, Oakley and Bethel Island.

Its supervisor is Federal Glover, of Pittsburg.

The county will hold redistricting public hearings starting this month and adopt a final set of maps this summer.
