‘Not Normal Behavior’: Fox’s Brit Hume Vexed by Kristi Noem’s Decision to Shoot Dog and Include in Book

Fox News Chief Political Analyst Brit Hume added his name to the expanding list of pundits who are shocked and/or confused by Kristi Noem‘s inclusion of a horrific story in her new book.

The South Dakota governor, who has been floated as a potential running mate for former President Donald Trump, wrote of shooting her 14-month-old dog after it repeatedly misbehaved. Noem said the last straw was when the dog, Cricket, killed several chickens after it escaped from her truck.

“At that moment,” Noem said, “I realized I had to put her down.” The Republican said she took Cricket to a gravel pit and shot it. She added that she also killed a goat in the same pit, but needed two shots to do so.

“A lot of dustup over this book by South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem in which she says that she shot her family’s puppy,” Bret Baier told Hume on Monday’s Special Report on Fox News. “Basically, she’s walking back this part of her book where she seemed to be touting the tough decision that she made to shoot this dog.”

Hume, who has a photo of his dog on his Twitter bio, said the incident will prove “damaging.”

“A great many people in America will look at that and think it’s telling,” Hume said. “I think it’s damaging, Bret, I really do. Cruelty to animals or shooting your dog strikes people as not normal behavior by – they will probably imagine – a not normal person.”

“But the fact that she wanted to say that is also telling,” Baier replied.

“Peculiar,” Hume stated. “If I were a political adviser to her – and that’s not my department – but had I been asked for an opinion about it, I’d say, ‘Don’t put that in your book, whatever you do.'”
