NewsNation’s Leland Vittert Calls Biden Mental State ‘Terrifying’: Real Debate Is Whether He Can Have ‘Nuclear Codes’ Now

NewsNation host Leland Vittert opened his show on Monday evening by questioning not just President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, but whether the Democrat should hold office at all.

Vitter addressed health concerns about the 81-year-old president at the top of On Balance and noted the number of Democrats who have publicly called for Biden to step aside following his CNN debate with Donald Trump and a pair of followup interviews. Biden has been defiant and insisted this week that he’s staying in the race and he’s the best chance to beat Trump.

“If President Biden is unfit to run for president as so many Democrats now openly say and as so many in the media seem to question then he is unfit to be president. It’s very simple,” Vittert said.

Biden had a neurological test during his physical in February, but there have been growing concerns about his fitness, as well as reports suggesting the president is pushing for earlier events so he can get more rest.

Vittert said it’s “clear” there is a “cognitive” issue.

“We can all see it with our own two eyes,” he said.

The NewsNation host bluntly called it “terrifying” to have someone in charge of nuclear codes when it’s being questioned whether they are even up for running the office they currently hold.

“Biden’s current mental state should be and is terrifying. What’s even more terrifying is the White House and even more terrifying than that, the president’s unwillingness to simply tell the truth about it,” Vittert said.

Biden has said he passes a cognitive test everyday being president, but Vittert pushed back on this, saying voters are only seeing him “flunk” those tests.

“Fitness for the presidency is like being pregnant, either you are or you are not,” he said. “You can’t be half pregnant. You can’t be fit for the presidency, but unfit to run for the presidency.”
