Fox’s Brit Hume Slams Lara Trump’s ‘Stupid’ Attack on GOP Senate Candidate: ‘Political Malpractice’

Fox News Chief Political Analyst Brit Hume deemed it “political malpractice” for Donald Trump’s media surrogates to attack former Republican Governor Larry Hogan, who is the party’s nominee for U.S. Senate in Maryland.

Polls show a tight race in deep-blue Maryland in an election cycle in which Republicans hope to retake the Senate. Last week, Hogan rubbed Trump allies the wrong way with a boilerplate remark about the former president’s criminal trial in New York. After news broke that the jury had reached a verdict, Hogan urged “all Americans to respect the legal process” and “the rule of law.”

Soon after, Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Hogan’s anodyne post drew the ire of Trump backers, including the ex-president’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump, who called his remarks “ridiculous.” Meanwhile, an adviser to the former president tweeted at Hogan, “You just ended your campaign.”

On Monday’s edition of Special Report on Fox News, guest host John Roberts asked Hume for his reaction.

“Does it make sense, Brit, to kneecap somebody who might just get you the Senate?” he asked.

“No, it’s political malpractice,” Hume replied. “Maryland is a very blue state. And Larry Hogan, who remained popular as a Republican governor and remains that way to this day, is giving the Republican Party the best chance it’s had in a long time to elect a Republican to the Senate. And the Lara Trumps of the world ought to be saying, ‘Please, Mr. Hogan, Please, Governor Hogan, you do whatever you have to do to get elected.'”

Hume added, “That’s how politics is played by smart people.”

The pundit went on to blame Trump for Republicans losing the Senate in 2021 when Democrats won two runoff elections in Georgia.

“So, let’s hope that Trump… doesn’t repeat the same mistake this time,” he said. “If you’re a Republican, you should hope that because that’s what could happen with this kind of stupid stuff.”
