Biden Short-Circuits in Debate and Declares, ‘We Finally Beat Medicare’

President Joe Biden stumbled badly during Thursday’s debate with former President Donald Trump while answering a question about the national debt.

“He had the largest national debt of any president in a four-year period,” Biden said of Trump. “Number two, that $2 trillion tax cut benefitted the very wealthy. What I’m gonna do is fix the tax system. For example, we have a thousand trillionaires in America. I mean billionaires. And what’s happening? We’re in a situation where they in fact pay 8.2% in taxes. If they just pay 24%, 25%, either one of those numbers we would’ve raised $500 million– billion dollars, I should say, in a 10-year period. We’d be able to wipe out his debt.”

As Biden wrapped up his response, he stumbled:

We’d be able to help make sure that all those things we need to do – childcare, elder care, making sure that we continue to strengthen our healthcare system, making sure that we’re able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I’ve been able to do with the, uh, with the Covid. Excuse me, with dealing with everything we have to do with, look, we finally beat Medicare.

“Thank you, Mr. President,” CNN moderator Jake Tapper said. “President Trump?”

“Boy, he’s right,” Trump declared. “He did beat Medicare. He beat it to death and he’s destroying Medicare because all of these people are coming in. They’re putting them on Medicare. They’re putting them on Social Security. They’re gonna destroy Social Security.”
