Donald Trump Jr., the eldest adult son of former President Donald Trump, was asked on his podcast Triggered about the “veepstakes” and who he thought would be his father’s choice for a running mate.

This part of the discussion, which starts at about 12:28 in the full video on Rumble, included a caveat from Trump Jr. that he doesn’t have “inside information” and has been pushing for Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH). But he went into the upsides and downsides to other names that have been floated including Ben Carson, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (“He’d be great as Energy Secretary or something like that”), and himself. But when it came to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Trump Jr. foresaw a big problem for his dad as early as Inauguration Day:

There is some truth about like, you know, having someone that’s a little bit more establishment in there. It’s like, wouldn’t like the Senate RINOs, like, wouldn’t they love that? Like, you know, I joked, you know, I said that about Nikki Haley, I was like, it gets her like, by the time my father’s hand moves off the Bible in the swearing-in process on — what’s the date, is it January 20th? — 12 p.m., January 20th. The second it goes off, it’d be like impeachment! And gone. Like that’s how fast it would be. And so there is something about having someone from outside of the establishment to sort of further protect you from that establishment.

Aside from the geographical conflicts of the ex-president and Rubio being residents of the same state, Trump Jr. seemed to kibosh Rubio as Trump’s VP choice simply because “RINOs” like Rubio more and would stoop to impeachment to make way for him to ascend to the top.
