Former President Donald Trump posted a wild screed to his Truth Social platform on Tuesday, in which he appeared to threaten to jail Facebook founder and billionaire Mark Zuckerberg and anyone else he believes committed election fraud.

“Republicans must pass the Save Act, or go home and cry yourself to sleep,” Trump began his post, adding:

Non citizen Illegal Migrants are getting the right to vote, being pushed by crooked Democrat Politicians who are not being stopped by an equally dishonest Justice Department. Our whole voting system is under siege. Harmeet and David, go to court and get this stopped, NOW. The Dems can’t win on their policies, the only way they can win is to CHEAT. They do it at every level of government, and they do it well. That’s how they get an incapacitated moron like Joe Biden elected. Get tough RNC (Michael W!), Speaker Johnson, and all State and Local Republican politicians. The Justice Department is CORRUPT and won’t do a thing to help. They have no shame! All I can say is that if I’m elected President, we will pursue Election Fraudsters at levels never seen before, and they will be sent to prison for long periods of time. We already know who you are. DON’T DO IT! ZUCKERBUCKS, be careful!

Trump’s post promoted the so-called “great replacement” conspiracy theory, which claims that Democrats are trying to replace American voters with migrants in order to reshape the electorate in their favor.

In May, the Associated Press covered the GOP centering “illegal migrants voting” as part of their 2024 campaign messaging. “Voting by people who are not U.S. citizens already is illegal in federal elections and there is no indication it’s happening anywhere in significant numbers. Yet Republican lawmakers at the federal and state levels are throwing their energy behind the issue, introducing legislation and fall ballot measures. The activity ensures the issue will remain at the forefront of voters’ minds in the months ahead,” reported the AP’s Ali Swenson – referring in part to the GOP’s SAVE (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility) Act.

The “great replacement” theory and anti-immigrant rhetoric have been tied to multiple mass shootings in the U.S., including at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburg, a Walmart in El Paso, and a grocery store in Buffalo.

USA Today also recently took a deep dive into the use of the term “Zuckerbucks” by Trump and other Republicans. The article explained the term stems from debunked election fraud claims based on “misinformation surrounding a nearly $420 million donation Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, made to two nonpartisan nonprofits, the Center for Tech and Civic Life and the Center for Election Innovation & Research, in 2020. Those funds were later disbursed to local and state officials.”

“But the donation − which some Republicans have coined ‘Zuckerbucks,’ an antisemitic term according to some watchdogs − became the center of conspiracy theories pushed by Trump and his allies who falsely claimed it benefited Democrats. It also ignited a nationwide movement to ban private election grants,” concluded USA Today’s Sudiksha Kochi.
