More than half of Democratic voters believe someone other than Joe Biden has a better chance at beating Donald Trump in November.
According to CNN’s new survey, 75% of voters say the Democratic Party would have a better chance against Trump if they backed another candidate. More than 50% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning registered voters agreed with that election assessment.
Amid talk of concerns about 81-year-old Biden’s age following last week’s CNN debate performance, Republicans appear to have solidified their support behind Trump, according to the latest numbers, with more than 80% saying Republicans have a better chance of winning the presidential election behind Donald Trump.
Biden’s approval rating hit a new low at 36% with more than 40% saying they strongly disapprove of his performance in the White House.
In a hypothetical race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, things get tighter with the former president pulling 47% while Harris pulls 45%.
The survey was conducted through SSRS Opinion Panel between June 28-30 among more than 1,200 adults. It carries a margin of error of 3.5%.
President Biden has insisted he’s staying in the race.
“Well, let me say as clearly as I can — I am staying in the race! I’ll beat Donald Trump!” he said at a rally in Wisconsin Friday. “I will beat him again in 2020. And by the way, we’re gonna do it again in 2024.”
