DNC Chair Insists Biden ‘Put on a Masterclass’ in Press Conference

Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison insisted President Joe Biden gave a strong performance in Thursday night’s press conference.

For 59 minutes, Biden held his first solo press conference since November. Toward the beginning, he mistakenly called Vice President Kamala Harris “Vice President Trump” in a gaffe that inevitably drew mockery from former President Donald Trump.

The presser came on the heels of a key NATO summit in Washington, D.C. Hours earlier, Biden mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin.”

Biden occasionally stumbled during the press conference, though not nearly as badly as he did in last month’s presidential debate with Trump. His performance jarred many Democrats on Capitol Hill, a handful of whom have publicly called on Biden to drop his reelection bid.

Harrison appeared on MSNBC on Thursday night, where he gave glowing reviews of Biden’s presser performance.

“Listen, I think he was clear,” the chair said. “I think he was strong, and really, Chris, he put on a masterclass in terms of complex international foreign policy tonight. You know, and the contrast is so clear. You could give Donald Trump a blank map and, ‘Say fill it in,’ and he would fail. Horribly. He wouldn’t have any clue where most of these countries were.”

Later in his remarks, Harrison criticized those Democrats who are calling for Biden to step aside.

“And so, Democrats, we’ve got to stop the handwringing. We got to stop the ‘woe is me,’ and understand our guy is much better – leagues better – than the other side. And he has delivered in the past and he will deliver again. Let’s focus our energy going after Trump and Project 2025 because of what threats that they make to the American people.”
