Brit Hume Says Trump Is ‘More Likely To Drive the Republicans to a Defeat’ Next Year Than Become a Dictator

Fox News Chief Political Analyst Brit Hume said Donald Trump is “more likely” to lead Republicans to defeat than he is to usher in a dictatorship.

The former president, who is running again, has called his political opponents “vermin” while promising to prosecute some of them if elected. While claiming his four criminal indictments are political, he has repeatedly told his supporters that the government is coming after them and he is standing in its way.

“I am your retribution,” he has told rally-goers.

His rhetoric – along with the fact that he tried to overturn the 2020 election after losing it – has spawned additional concern that Trump would form an autocratic government if given the chance.

Hume panned these worries.

“It’s all a little overwrought,” he said on Monday’s Special Report. “We had four years of Donald Trump and blustered and bragged and threatened and so forth and, yet he didn’t bring us to the brink of dictatorship. And for all the excitement that was created by his activities after the election, which, he tried everything he could to try to remain in power, in the end, it failed. What was labeled an insurrection lasted about three or four hours.”

He went on to predict Trump is likelier to lose next year than become an autocrat.

“He’s more likely to drive the Republicans to a defeat at the hands of Joe Biden than he is to drive the country toward dictatorship,” he concluded.
