WH Roasts GOP for ‘Uncovering More Evidence That Clears Biden’ — Calls For End To Impeachment After Brother James Testifies

White House senior adviser and chief spokesman for investigations Ian Sams roasted Republicans over bombshell developments in the effort to impeach President Joe Biden, and called on them to “move on” from their “baseless impeachment stunt.”

This has been a lousy seven days for the Republican effort to impeach Biden, which already wasn’t going great. The investigation into Biden resulted in Republicans formalizing their impeachment inquiry in a 221 to 212 vote in December — despite widespread acknowledgment by journalists (including Mediaite founder Dan Abrams) and even other Republicans that there was “no evidence” of wrongdoing by President Biden.

Then Special Counsel David Weiss announced Thursday that Alexander Smirnov — a key informant behind the Republican effort to impeach Biden over his son Hunter Biden’s business dealings — had been charged with lying to the FBI amid a slew of jaw-dropping revelations.

And on Wednesday, James Biden, the president’s brother and a key figure in the story Republicans have woven, testified behind closed doors before the House Oversight Committee that his brother had no involvement in the business dealings of his family.

In a statement emailed to Mediaite, Sams mocked the Republicans and said it’s time to move on:

“It seems like the only thing House Republicans are capable of uncovering is more and more evidence that clears President Biden of the false allegations they have been promoting for years. Chairman Comer has done a lot of work to refute his own baseless impeachment stunt, but it is clear it’s time to move on. House Republicans need to stop wasting time chasing after baseless smears and instead join President Biden and Democrats in Congress to focus on the issues that actually matter to the American people.”

And in a memo entitled “Yet Another ‘Crucial’ GOP Witness Refutes Impeachment Claims,” the White House cited reporting on other witnesses:

This latest development comes as House Republicans have interviewed numerous other witnesses – including former business associates of both Hunter and Jim Biden’s – who have completely undermined their made-up conspiracies. In fact, these witnesses have repeatedly “undercut Republicans’ claims” and instead created an “extensive record” of “exonerating statements”:

• Washington Post: “A review of nearly 2,000 pages of transcripts from recent witnesses before the House impeachment inquiry, many with deep knowledge of Hunter’s business affairs, suggests Republicans are still struggling to uncover firm evidence that Joe Biden benefited from the business pursuits of his son and his brother. If anything, the House Oversight and Judiciary committees have compiled an extensive record of sworn statements from firsthand witnesses saying the president was never involved.”
• CNN: “Republicans in recent weeks have hauled in a series of Biden family business associates who testified, based on first-hand experience, Joe Biden was not involved in his family’s foreign business dealings, undermining the allegation at the heart of their entire investigation.”
• New York Times: “Mr. Biden’s testimony comes at a critical moment for the G.O.P. inquiry after a succession of witnesses undercut Republicans’ claims about President Biden’s involvement in his son’s and brother’s businesses.”

Hunter Biden is expected to testify next week.
