‘We Did Not Come To Beat Up On You!’ Black Church Pastor Defends Biden During Intro To Speech Amid Drop-Out Pressure

Mount Airy Church of God In Christ Senior Pastor Bishop Dr. J. Louis Felton defended President Joe Biden during a prayer to introduce the president, even as pressure builds from some for Biden to drop out of the presidential race.

Calls for President Biden to drop out have escalated from a media frenzy over anonymous chatter to a media frenzy over elected Democrats stepping out publicly after CNN’s Biden-Trump debate.

The president has vowed to stay in the race and attempted to reassure critics with a series of interviews and a stepped-up campaign schedule.

That schedule included three stops in Pennsylvania on Sunday — one at Bishop Felton’s church. In a prayer introducing the president, Bishop Felton expressed “love” for Biden — and after the speech, promised that he and his congregation “stand with you”:

BISHOP DR. J. LOUIS FELTON: When you have a world view, you recognize that wherever you live or wherever you came from, God put something in you that can change the world!

Why don’t you just look at somebody and tell them God put something in you that can change the world?

And that is why we have come together today.

Because America needs to see some love for change. I believe that that is why God, who is in charge of everything, interfered with the president’s schedule. He was previously scheduled to speak at a conference today, but God knew President Biden needs some love, and God sent him here today so that we can show him. Come on, let’s show him some love.

(APPLAUSE).

And so, President Biden, you are not only among friends, you’re among family. We did not come to beat up on you, to put you down, to criticize you, to magnify your flaws or mistakes!

We come to love you. We love you, president. Come on. Say “We love you, President Biden!

PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

CROWD: Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!

BISHOP DR. J. LOUIS FELTON: Let us give God praise for the president of the United States. President Joseph Biden.

Now, my beloved brothers and sisters. This would not be a real church service if we didn’t raise some money. So we will pass the plate.

And so I want to welcome the news media to give some money today!

(Applause and laughter).

This is our fifth day church anniversary, our birthday celebration. Thank you, President Biden, for honoring us with your presence! We love and appreciate you! We stand with you, President Biden!
