Chris Christie Announces He’s Suspending His 2024 Presidential Campaign

After much speculation, Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) announced that he’s suspending his campaign for the 2024 GOP nomination.

Christie spoke during a town hall in Windham, NH, Wednesday evening, saying, “From the beginning, we’ve been in this race to tell the truth.” Christie said he knew that Donald Trump’s nomination “wasn’t a foregone conclusion” and that “the case had to be made against him.”

Christie said he decided to suspend his campaign because “it’s clear to me tonight that there isn’t a path forward” to continue.

Earlier Wednesday, Journalist Mark Halperin broke the news on his Substack that Christie was expected to drop out, according to two anonymous sources.

Halperin wrote that Christie was not expected to immediately announce an endorsement.

Christie was the only GOP contender who consistently dared to call Trump out over his election lies and other untruths.

“I would rather lose by telling the truth than lie in order to win,” Christie said, adding that the “character of the candidate” is of utmost importance as Americans “fight for the soul of our country.”

This is a breaking story and has been updated.
