Pharmacology

A section of Medicina (ISSN 1648-9144).

Section Information

Pharmacology is the scientific study of the distribution of man-made and naturally occuring drugs and how they affect living organisms. Pharmacology includes the study of how a drug is developed, its origin, its compositions and formulations, its therapeutic applications, and finally its dosage for use. Importantly, Pharmacology also uncovers how drugs interact with living systems and reveals pathways to toxicity. The goal of Pharmacology is to provide a systematic approach to studying the properties of drugs and their interactions (specific and non-specific) with biological targets that produce physiological responses.

The section “Pharmacology” of the journal Medicina is devoted to the propagation of novel findings, advances and state-of-the-art knowledge in the field of Pharmacology and its sub-specialities (pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics) that provide information on how organisms handle drugs, on strategies towards the identification and validation of new targets for drug action, the design and development of new drugs to prevent, treat and cure disease, and the development of modern personalized medicines.

The primary aim of this section is to advance our knowledge in the field of Pharmacology covering basic, translational and clinical research progress, keeping the scientific community up-to-date by exchanging information in health and life sciences that pertains to pharmacological topics on molecular, biochemical, translational, and clinical research (including clinical trials).
