Cover Story (view full-size image): The brown meagre, Sciaena umbra, is a patrimonial species targeted by small-scale artisanal fisheries in the Mediterranean Sea and the Northeast Atlantic. Nowadays, this species is listed as "Near Threatened" in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species due to a declining population trend in the Mediterranean Sea. Therefore, restocking is an option to help the recovery of depleted stocks. However, a considerable amount of prior knowledge is required to produce large numbers of individuals for commercial and stock enhancement purposes.
