Optimising bioprocesses in large-scale bioreactors demands predictive insights into cellular responses under fluctuating conditions. This study explores the integration of CFD with CRK models, a digital bioprocess modelling approach to achieve this goal. By comparing Eulerian and Lagrangian strategies, their suitability for diverse bioprocess scenarios has been assessed. These coupled approaches bridge hydrodynamics and cellular metabolism, enabling real-time understanding of dynamic cellular behaviour and facilitating rapid biomanufacturing decisions. Despite computational hurdles, advances in GPU architecture and hybrid modelling show promise. This review underscores how CFD–CRK integration can enhance productivity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in biopharmaceutical production, paving the way for next-generation bioprocess optimisation.
