A promising strategy to increase the therapeutic efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents and reduce their side effects is the use of nanoparticle systems that can deliver drugs specifically to tumor sites. In this context, nanohydroxyapatite (nHAp) as a biocompatible material is highly preferred in the drug carrier system. Clinical research has shown that canine mastocytoma NI-1 cell line with confirmed c-Kit tyrosine kinase mutations is a good model for the evaluation of targeted therapeutic agents, including toceranib (Toc), known as protein tyrosine kinase inhibitor. The effectiveness of the proposed nHAp-Toc system was confirmed in vivo by comparing the cytotoxicity of the drug in combination with nHAp to the effect of the drug itself. These findings indicate a synergistic antitumor activity of the nHAp-mediated delivery system. View this paper.
