Forecasters are expecting a lengthy period of heat and humidity through the remainder of the week in the Lehigh Valley.

The region is under a heat advisory from Tuesday morning until Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. After that, the Lehigh Valley is under an excessive heat watch through Sunday. It was initially only scheduled through Saturday, but forecasters extended the watch on Tuesday.

High temperatures are expected to be in the 90s through the weekend, making it the hottest stretch of days so far this year.

Under the heat advisory, heat index values of up to 97 are expected, according to forecasters. Under the excessive heat watch, heat index values of up to 104 are possible.

Friday is expected to be the warmest of the next few days, but forecasters noted that the weekend will feel much warmer than it actually will be.

The weather service recommends people stay hydrated, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives or neighbors.
