Will There Be A Season Two Of The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Docuseries?

We already know who could be in the cast (hint: it includes two of last year's axed trainees).

The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) went from Texas to the world when Netflix released its docuseries, Americaโ€™s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders last month.

The seven-part series took viewers through the audition process and training camp for dancers hoping to make the NFLโ€™s most prestigious cheer squad. We watched as director Kelli Finglass and choreographer Judy Trammell narrowed prospects down to a team of 36, with plenty of tears and triumphs along the way.

Americaโ€™s Sweethearts ended with the closure of the NFL season, seeing the retirement of some of the showโ€™s key cast members from the troupe. However, several cheerleaders also expressed their desire to return to the team for the 2024 football seasonโ€”and with another round of try-outs and inevitable DCC drama, we canโ€™t help but wonder if a second season might be in the works, too.

Will There Be A Season Two Of Americaโ€™s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders?

Considering the show has been firmly planted in the top spots in Netflixโ€™s top TV shows since its release, a renewal seems somewhat inevitable.

However, Netflix has not yet announced plans for a season two of Americaโ€™s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

That doesnโ€™t mean itโ€™s not happening, though. Both the Dallas Cowboys and the series director have touched on a prospective second season.

In June, the Dallas Cowboys also released a statement on its website. The organisation wrote, โ€œWhile plans are currently undetermined for a second season, the Dallas Cowboys are excited to see the response from the world in the early stages of the showโ€™s release in anticipation of hopefully signing on for more seasons.โ€

Director Greg Whiteley also offered some cryptic comments in an interview with Variety.

โ€œOur last two or three weeks of filming, we were just starting to hit our stride,โ€ Whiteley told the publication. โ€œPart of it is the stakes are higher when youโ€™re at a place like The Star, where it is the most financially lucrative, valuable sports franchise in all the world.โ€

The director added, โ€œThey have plenty at stake and that breeds a certain culture thatโ€™s very buttoned down and can sometimes bump up against a documentary film crew trying to pierce that. I felt like we were just starting to get there as we were wrapping up, and Iโ€™d love to have more time to see if we can get deeper and deeper with more and more of the team.โ€

It is also worth noting that Cheer, the 2020 series about the Navarro College cheer squad, was also seemingly planned to be a limited series. Cheer, which was also helmed by Whiteley, was renewed after an overwhelming response to its premiere. Given DCCโ€™s doc was reportedly watched for 687 million minutes in its first week, for Netflix to stop here would be surprising.

Who Would Be In Season Two Of The DCC Docuseries?

If Americaโ€™s Sweethearts were to get a season two, its cast would depend on who makes the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders squad during the season itโ€™s filmed.

Auditions for the 2024-2025 NFL season have already been completed and at the time of writing, DCC training camp is currently underway.

Videos posted to the DCC Instagram confirm both Reece and Anna Kate are back in training camp after making the team last year. Other posts have also confirmed that last yearโ€™s rookie hopefuls, Kelly and Charly have returned to try out again.

When Would It Be Released?

Given the training camp for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders 2024-2025 squad is currently underway, if Netflix is planning a second season in the same format, then they would need to be filming right now. The streamer has not confirmed that they are, or that a second instalment of the show would definitely focus on the incoming NFL season.

Given season one was released almost a year after it first started filming, we can likely expect the same from season two, should it eventuate.
