Montreal’s Public Markets

As a social economy enterprise, the mission of the Société des Marchés publics de Montréal is to improve access to fresh produce through a network of public markets that bring Montrealers closer to local producers, market gardeners, retailers, restaurateurs and agri-food artisans.
Since 1993, we have been mandated by the City of Montréal to manage the Atwater Market, the Jean-Talon Market, the Maisonneuve Market, six neighbourhood markets and three solidarity markets. As a non-profit organisation, our governance is based on a mixed board of directors, made up of five merchants and five residents of the Greater Montreal area, and includes more than 200 members who trade in public markets.

More than three out of four Montrealers visit the Montréal Public Markets network. By promoting a short circuit model, the network helps to feed the population and provide year-round access to local, quality produce throughout the island of Montréal.
