- Tom Brady couldn't be roasted by Boston native Matt Damon at his epic roast
- Ben Affleck was roasted by the Internet for his lack of wit at Tom Brady's roast: "It was a car crash"
In an unprecedented live televised event, organized at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, Tom Brady, former quarterback of the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was in the spotlight of The Greatest Roast of All Time.
The special was part of Netflix Is a Joke Fest and featured big celebrities such as Ben Affleck, Will Ferrell, Kim Kardashian, among others, as well as notable NFL figures such as Peyton Manning and Rob Gronkowski. However, it was a joke by comedian Jeff Ross about Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, that marked the first tense moment of the night.
Jeff Ross is known for his incisive comments, and it was only a matter of time for him to say something that the future Hall of Famer did not like.
Ross was quick to reference the 2019 controversy involving Kraft with charges of soliciting prostitution, which were ultimately dismissed.
"So Tom became a Patriot and moved up to New England, and on the first day of training camp, that scrawny rookie famously walked into the owner Robert Kraft's office and said, 'I'm the best decision your organization has ever made. Would you like a massage?'"
Brady then approached Jeff at the podium and whispered, "Don't ever say that shit again." To which he responded, visibly nervous, "OK, OK. He's having fun, look at him. I love what you do for Jews, Robert Kraft (referring to his Jewish background). "You're amazing," he said trying to soften the moment.
Did Tom Brady really get angry?
Many have speculated that the GOAT did not like the joke, but Ross appeared as a guest in the Rich Eisen show and cleared the air by saying that Tom was just defending his former owner, and everything was cool.
"No way. He's having fun. It's like, that's his dad. You know? Robert Kraft is like a father figure to him. He was just showing his love for Robert Kraft, and Robert Kraft loved it. We had a great talk afterwards. And he was so happy that I gave him a shout out, a salute. It was beautiful."
At the end it seems that everybody enjoyed the show, and no harm was founded in the jokes, even if Brady did not smile on stage.
