The MLB London mini-series went with a win for each team as the Cubs won 9-1 on Saturday
After a four-run rally in the first inning for Chicago, the Cardinals gradually made their way onto the scoreboard until finally, in the fourth inning Paul Goldschmidt hit a single to right field to send Tommy Edman home with the go-ahead run.
In the same inning, Lars Nootbaar produced another with a sacrifice fly, and in the fifth inning, Nolan Gorman hit a single to left field that sent the MVP of the game, Willson Contreras, to the register, for the seventh run of the Cardinals.
Before an official attendance of 55,565 fans, the London mini-series was a complete success with wins for each team in the two games held at London Stadium, home of West Ham United of the English Premier League.
Error-filled start to the game
In the top of the first inning, the Cardinals opened the door to the Cubs' attack by making a couple of errors that were taken advantage of by Chicago, which took a 4-0 lead thanks to runs produced by Swanson, Mancini, and Amaya, and it seemed that for the second day, they would have a favorable game.
However, St. Louis bats began to make noise after an error by Cubs starter Mancini allowed Contreras to score the first run for St. Louis in the second inning.
Nootbaar shined in London
Donovan produced two more with a single to the right, and after two innings the game was already 4-3.
In the third inning, the game was tied thanks to a single by Walker, and in the fourth inning, Goldschmidt connected the run-producing hit for the go-ahead run; one batter later Nootbaar pushed in what in the end was the difference run.
Gorman produced one more in the fifth inning and in the top of the ninth Hoerner singled home Madrigal for the final run of the game.
