The Chicago Cubs have made history by winning for the first time at the home field of the New York Yankees.

Founded in 1876, the Cubs are a long-standing team based on the north side of Chicago.

Despite having famous fans like actor Bill Murray, politician Hillary Clinton, and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, the team went 108 years without winning a title.

During this time, they had never been able to secure a victory at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. However, on Saturday, the Cubs achieved a historic 3-0 win following the return of Jameson Taillon, who had previously played for the Yankees for two seasons.

The Yankees, representing the American League, and the Cubs, representing the National League, participate in different competitions within MLB.

History between Cubs and Yankees

Interleague games between the two leagues began in 1997 after a change in the competition system. It was not until 2005 that the Cubs played against the Yankees in New York during the regular season.

The Cubs and Yankees have previously faced each other twice in the World Series, in 1932 and 1938. The Yankees emerged victorious in both encounters, winning 4-0 each time.

The first victory in 1932 marked the final title won by Babe Ruth, while the second victory in 1938 took place during Lou Gehrig's last active season before retiring due to ALS, also known as Gehrig's Disease.

Unlike the glamorous reputation of the Yankees, the Cubs have often been associated with a sense of defeatism throughout their history, despite their three World Series championships (in 1907, 1908, and 2016) out of 17 appearances.

The team carry a rich tradition in the competition, with Wrigley Field, their stadium since 1914, being the second oldest in MLB after Fenway Park.

Prior to this recent victory, the Cubs had lost in all 12 of their previous visits to Yankee Stadium, including five games at the new venue that opened in 2009.
