- Golf. Tiger Woods is king, but the current benchmark is Scottie Scheffler
- Golf. The famous Masters menu doesn't feature Tiger Woods but people still go crazy for him: What's so special about him?
Tiger Woods finished the first round at dawn after darkness prevented him from finishing Thursday's first round because of a rain delay.
The megastar completed the remaining five holes at two-over-par to post a 73 overall (+1) at Augusta, a course that played longer in the early hours of Friday because of the cold, the worst enemy at this stage of Tiger's career, whose physique suffers until the temperature rises.
The 12-degree restart was not enough and Tiger added some extra warm-up exercises on the course. The wind wasn't blowing like it had on Thursday - "one of the toughest days I've ever seen here, not only because of the changing direction, but also the different intensity," said the five-time green jacket winner - but it wasn't calm either.
Woods played some outstanding drivers, but on the second shots, with the long irons, he did not find good positions, which led to a bogey on the 14th and a missed birdie on the last par 5 (hole 15). On the 18th, after visiting the bunker, he made his second mistake.
No time for Tiger to rest
Immediately, with barely 50 minutes to spare, the second round will have to begin, where Woods' first objective is to make the cut, which would be his 24th in a row and would allow him to break the historical tie with Fred Couples and Gary Player.
Next to him, in the same match, was Max Homa, 33 years old, perhaps the best anonymous golfer in the world.
He played some straight shots, contrary to what the Augusta manual dictates, which invites you to play with the contours. The golfer from Burbank, the city of Disney, Warner and Netflix, linked two birdies on 16 and 17 with two putts that between them did not add a metre and a half.
On the latter, he came close to holing it from the fairway. He was three fingers short. Like Tiger, he also went to the sand and missed the putt on the 18th. He is third with 67 strokes, his best score in a Major, along with Nicolai Hojgaard, two behind DeChambeau and one behind Scheffler.
