Mason Greenwood briefly returned to the Manchester United training complex for the first time in two-and-a-half years on Monday to discuss his probable departure.

Greenwood, who was accompanied by his father, did not participate in the United first team's first training session of pre-season as the club have received bids from Lazio and Marseille for the forward.

It is understood United are in advanced talks with Marseille and the club held constructive talks with Greenwood about his future.

Sources say Greenwood spent a brief amount of time at Carrington to meet with the football leadership figures. Greenwood, 22, is out of contract next year.

Greenwood was last at Carrington in January 2022. He was arrested at the end of the month and charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm were dropped in February 2023.

United sources last month described Greenwood's probable departure as more "advanced" than Jadon Sancho's.

Greenwood last played for United in their 1-0 victory over West Ham United on January 22 2022. He scored ten goals in 36 games for Getafe.
