Scott McTominay is set to miss Manchester United's Premier League fixture away to Bournemouth but Marcus Rashford could be available.

McTominay missed the 2-2 draw with Liverpool last week while Rashford was forced off in the second half but he trained on Thursday after sitting out the session on Wednesday.

"Scott: I don't think so," United manager Erik ten Hag said. "We have a training session, so we have a day, he will push, he is so keen to be a part of it tomorrow, so it's very questionable.

"And then Rashford: Rashy trained yesterday, so how he recovered from it today, we have another training today and then we will make a decision on it."

United will be without six senior defenders after Raphael Varane was ruled out for a few weeks and Jonny Evans was ruled out of the Bournemouth game with a shorter-term injury.

Willy Kambwala made his full home debut against Liverpool in the 26th different back four Ten Hag has selected this season. Harry Maguire, Kambwala's partner at centre half, was close to leaving United in the summer when West Ham United had a £30million offer accepted but he has enjoyed a decent campaign and started 21 games.

"You have to see it in that perspective," Ten Hag said of West Ham's interest in Maguire. "We were always happy with Harry Maguire but he wants to play.

"He's a great leader, he's a very good defender, very comfortable on the ball. When I count all of those abilities, just now when we are on our defending line we have our problems, he is even more important to lead that line, to make us play from the back. So we are very pleased he is there and we need him to get our results and achieve our targets.

"It's very difficult [to keep changing back four]. So everyone who has a little bit of knowledge about football - a little - they know it will affect your results and performances. The back four is always the foundation to get results. We didn't have that.

"But we still have to win, we know that, so then others have to take responsibility but when you oversee then you know it has a negative impact."

United lost 3-0 to Bournemouth at Old Trafford in December three days after an impressive 2-1 home victory over Chelsea. Ten Hag admitted United were "not mentally ready" for the Bournemouth match.

"It was after a very good performance against Chelsea in the week," Ten Hag noted. "We were mentally not ready for that game. They battled us and we lost the battles. Tomorrow will not be different, that is the way they want to play. They want to fight with you.

"So you go into that fight, have the conviction, the belief and you need to support each other to win battles, to outplay them, outrun them and defending to match the runs."
