A much-changed Manchester City team made light work of FC Copenhagen to seal a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals for an eighth successive year.

Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne were among the stars rested but the Blues scored twice inside the first 10 minutes to kill the game off with goals from Manu Akanji and Julian Alvarez. Mohamed Elyounoussi pulled one back for the visitors to give their fans something to cheer on their trip, but Erling Haaland restored the two-goal advantage on the stroke of half-time.

The Blues saw the game out comfortably after that, with time for Micah Hamilton and Jacob Wright to come onto the pitch to earn valuable minutes as well as Sergio Gomez getting a half. Here are how the players rated.

Ederson: Little to do all night apart from pick the ball out of the back of the net. A few saves but also dropped an easy catch from a corner. 6

Lewis: Understandably rusty given he has barely played. Gave the ball away more often than anyone is used to seeing from him. 6

Akanji: An excellent goal and City's best defender on the night, playing both centrally and on the right. 8

Dias: Sloppy for the goal, unable to stop the ball getting through him. Earned a rest for the last 25 minutes and will surely return for Anfield. 6

Gvardiol: Some good drives into midfield, some misplaced passes at left-back. Welcome back for Gvardiol. 6

Rodri: A perfect warm-up for Anfield as he strolled past Copenhagen shirts for a half before earning a rest for the second 45. 8

Kovacic: Earned a talking-to from Guardiola after missing a few chances to set teammates free, but took the words on board. 7

Alvarez: A goal and an assist from out wide, however soft the goal was. Became less influential as he moved into the middle. 7

Nunes: An interesting performance as ever, although still inconsistent. Not enough meaningful impact in the final third. 6

Bobb: Bright and sharp in the first half as he imitated Foden with his drive through the middle of the pitch. Faded in the second half. 7

Haaland: Didn't have much to go on for most of the game but still managed to get his goal and was involved throughout. 7
