England were forced to delay taking a free kick in the opening 25 minutes of their World Cup Final match after a fan invaded the pitch.

A free kick was won for England in a good position but was promptly paused after someone invading the pitch.

Manchester City's Lauren Hemp had to calmly walk away while he was being wrestled by security while boos could be heard around the stadium.

The pitch invader swiftly dealt with and England's free kick amounted to nothing.

The match was briefly delayed in the 24th minute and briefly caused a stir at Stadium Australia as the Lionesses look to win the World Cup for the very first time.

The invader was wearing a t-shirt depicting Putin as Hitler and 'Free Ukraine'.

The intruder is believed to have been protesting against Russian president Vladimir Putin, donning a t-shirt that showed a picture of Putin alongside the message: "Stop Putler." On the back of the black t-shirt sat the Ukraine flag as well as another message that read: "Free Ukraine."

England went into half-time 1-0 down after a superb strike from Spain's Olga Carmona.

Whoever wins this 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup will go down in history as a brand new winner. Neither of these teams have reached a final before, let alone won one, with only four previous winners since the inaugural tournament in 1991.
