A new episode of Marvel’s latest TV series, Loki, drops on Disney Plus later today (Wednesday) and a new Marvel Studios poster highlighting the mysterious Time-Keepers hints that we might be about to find out more about the secretive trio.

The series, which stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino, marks the third live action Marvel series to be released on Disney Plus, as well as the first solo outing for Thor’s adopted brother in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

As for the Time-Keepers, we don’t know too much about them yet, other than they apparently saved the universe from a multiversal war by creating and maintaining one single Sacred Timeline.

But with lies about the Time Variance Authority (TVA) starting to come to light in the last episode, it’s only a matter of time until we get a closer look at the Time-Keepers too.

Ahead of Loki episode four, here’s a rundown of the best fan theories and predictions for who the Time-Keepers could be.

Who are the Time-Keepers in Loki?

Loki referred to them as “space lizards,” but who do fans think could really be in charge of the mysterious TVA? From another rogue Loki Variant to the upcoming Ant-Man villain, here are the best fan theories.

Richard E. Grant’s mystery character

Although the Time-Keepers are described as the all-powerful beings running the whole TVA operation, we have yet to actually see them in the series.

And someone else we’re also still waiting to see is Richard E. Grant’s mystery character, hotly anticipated to be an older version of Loki from a different timeline.

Considering Grant’s main cast member status and the timing of the new Time-Keepers poster, it seems likely that we’ll get a glimpse of either Grant’s character or the Time-Keepers in this week’s episode, but it makes sense that the two are linked and will be part of an upcoming major reveal.

Kang the Conqueror

Kang the Conqueror, aka the big baddie in 2023’s Ant-Man: Quantumania, is also widely theorised to be one of the Time-Keepers, due to some comic book links to a key Loki character.

Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country) is confirmed to be taking on the upcoming role of the time-travelling villain, but some fans are speculating that the middle Time-Keeper statue is similar in appearance to the character.

Not only that, but in the comics Kang’s love interest is none other than Loki’s very own Ravonna Renslayer, meaning his early entry into the MCU would definitely make sense.

Loki Variants

Since the beginning of the show, Loki’s main mission while in the TVA was to win an audience with the Time-Keepers before infiltrating them and taking over the whole organisation.

Considering that Mobius previously revealed in episode two that the TVA has already encountered several versions of Loki, all with different powers and appearances, it stands to reason that perhaps one of the earlier variants actually managed to fulfil his goal.

Loki is known in the Avengers film series to repeatedly cheat death, and it’s been the same case for the character in the TVA, as he constantly avoids being pruned. Perhaps the Loki Time-Keepers are looking out for him?

The Time-Keepers don’t exist

After Mobius’ (Wilson) failed mission to 1985 Wisconsin in episode two, he visits Judge Ravonna Renslayer (Mbatha-Raw), and the pair have an interesting exchange that sees Mobius reveal he has never actually met the Time-Keepers.

Renslayer responds by telling him that they are monitoring every aspect of the case, and have never previously been so involved in a mission.

Some fans think that Renslayer — who even three episodes in seems to be the only one in direct communication with the Time-Keepers — actually has a lot more power than she’s letting on, and may even be a Time-Keeper herself.
