Fans have been left 'crying' after Dec Donnelly was seen receiving some news about his late father from a long-lost relative. The presenter was seen getting choked up when he appeared on the Capital Breakfast Show alongside co-star Ant McPartlin while promoting the new series of Saturday Night Takeaway.

During their appearance, host Roman Kemp revealed to Dec that he was related to someone in their very studio and played a little game - which they aptly called Guess The Relative - where he had three people to choose from as a possible family relation.

During the game, assistant producer Kaz McBride revealed that she was, in fact, a distant cousin of Dec’s. "We are distant cousins Dec I can absolutely confirm. We both have roots in rural South Derry," she told the Geordie TV star who looked on in complete amazement.

"So my mum’s from Draperstown but my grandmother’s from Desertmartin where your parents are from," she then continued. "So the connection is your Uncle Charlie is my grannie’s brother-in-law, so she’s your Auntie Rosie’s sister." Dec was in disbelief at the revelation as he exclaimed: "No way!"

However, the surprises didn’t end there as Kaz then brought out a family photo album and showed Dec a snap of his late father, Alphonsus, who died in 2011, with her grandmother. "This is your dad and my granny,” she said, showing Dec a snap of his dad and her gran working in a hayfield in Ireland.

Dec, 48, was left holding back tears when he was shown the picture of his mum and dad sitting on top of an old car which he says he had never seen before. "That’s my dad,” Dec gasped, looking at the pictures.

"Oh my God. That’s amazing…Wow, that’s incredible," the TV favourite continued, patting his chest as he fought to keep his emotions at bay. "Aww thank you," he said tearfully before adding: "Oh my god," and sharing a hug with the cousin he’d never known. Roman then commented: "What a brilliant thing. Look at the family love."
